Join us in the thrill of Bruch’s exciting and beautiful Concerto No. 1 in G minor, performed by hometown violin phenom, Nancy Zhou. Then, be transported by the authentic flavors of America and Bohemia. After decades of neglect, African-American composer Florence Price is currently enjoying a renaissance; the Philharmonic is celebrating her music with a performance of Dances in the Canebrakes—a work based on three American dance forms: the rag, the slow drag, and the cakewalk. We’ll hear the work, originally for piano, as orchestrated by the great William Grant Still. Finally, we’ll send you off on a high note with Dvořák’s stirring Symphony No. 8.
