Akiko Fujimoto, conductor
Jon Kimura Parker, piano
Closing our season with a bang, San Antonio favorite Akiko Fujimoto joins world-renowned pianist Jon Kimura Parker for an expert rendering of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. But first, Akiko introduces us to the pleasure of a new work by composer Carlos Simon entitled Fate Now Conquers. The work takes its inspiration and title from an 1815 entry in Beethoven’s journal, itself taken directly from Homer’s Iliad. Simons’ work captures the essence of this mysterious journal entry using the harmonic structure of the second movement of Beethoven’sSymphony No. 7. Then, the Philharmonic’s inaugural season will conclude with Brahms’ magnificent Symphony No. 2.
